Michael Sutton is a poet and artist from Liverpool. He is the author of several books, and his poetry has been featured internationally in various anthologies and journals, such as minor literature[s], 3:AM Magazine, BlazeVOX, and Poetry Salzburg Review. He has performed his work far and wide, becoming a regular feature of the European Poetry Festival, and his writing has received multiple awards, including the Streetcake Experimental Writing Prize.
In recent years, he has also developed a sound-based practice, creating works which blend sound-poetry and musique concrete to make sonic landscapes which echo the noise of the everyday and the extreme. These explorations have led to the production of two sounds-based compilations: Woodhouse Moore 0424-0436am (Post-Ascemic Press) and Tilt (Angry Starlings), each released in 2024. This sonic interest has also surfaced in his performance work through collaborative vocal pieces commissioned by Poem Brut and the European Poetry Festival, which have been performed in Liverpool, London and York.
He currently researches and teaches at the University of Leeds, where he is undertaking a PhD in Poetry and Prehistoric Expression. He is also the co-founder and editor of Overground Underground magazine and press, publishing ‘literature for the non-apocalypse’ since 2021.
